As part of Care Proceedings or Adoption Orders, the courts can often make recommendations to provide looked after children with therapeutic interventions.
At Core Children’s Services, we provide on-going therapeutic interventions for looked after children based on over 17 years’ experience in the field. Our qualified therapists are able to assist the courts by:
Therapy is conducted through the use of evidence based models including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy® (DDP) and Theraplay®. These models are recognised as being particularly effective in treating the difficulties that arise as a result of having been subject to developmental trauma, abuse and neglect.
Our therapists work in community settings or homes, or can make use of our fully equipped therapy spaces located across the country.
Core Children’s Services therapists also work directly with children and young people using other approaches, as the situation requires. This work can be individual work or involve the adopter/foster carer in joint sessions. Therapists within Core Children’s Services are trained to deal with in a range of different situations, meaning that we can locate the best approach for children, young people and their carers.
Core Children’s Services therapists can facilitate network meetings between professionals, carers and/or parents involved with the looked after child or young person.
The implementation of networking events is a practice steeped in evidence based recommendations which demonstrate that creating cohesive understanding of the young person’s difficulties and working collaboratively as a team can help to stabilise and support foster care placements.
Core Children’s Services provides expert therapeutic consultation to aid professionals and partners in decision making, care planning and education provision. Therapeutic consultation is provided in schools to facilitate understanding amongst staff as to the nature of attachment difficulties as well as providing an opportunity to discuss useful strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
Therapeutic consultation from Core Children’s Services is fundamental to stabilising school placements and keeping young people with challenging behaviour in education.
