British Forces Social Work Service delivers a full, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week statutory social work service for children, vulnerable adults and their families across the whole service community including serving military personnel, their families and civilian staff that work with them. We are based in Germany with responsibility for isolated detachments not only in Europe (EJSU) but also in Kenya and Canada.
Core Assets took responsibility for managing the service in November 2014 and in quarter four of 2015 alone dealt with over 70 Initial Contacts from 5 different MoD locations, resulting in 17 new Child in Need and 5 new Child Protection cases, as well as wider referrals for Victim and Witness Support and Vulnerable Adults.
The team offer the full spectrum of Social Work provision, including Domestic Abuse programmes, Family Support, Blue Badge applications for disabled people and offer both emergency and respite placements to the children of serving military personnel through their approved bank of Foster Carers.
We work extensively with the issues which are prevalent in the service community such as loss and change issues (especially linked to deployment activity), the impact of family breakdown and dysfunction (including domestic abuse) and the challenges of living in a service community.
