Cafcass Separated Parents Information Programme

Working in partnership with Cafcass, our Separated Parents Information Programme is aimed at separated and separating families within the private law arena.

About this project

The programme, commonly referred to as SPIP, plays a vital part in supporting separated parents and families with the planning for their child when there is a disagreement relating to contact issues.

The SPIP is a 4 hour programme run during the day, evening or at the weekend to fit around family life. Those attending can either be referred by the court or self-refer if they choose to take a proactive approach to explore ways that may support them through the difficulties associated with being part of a separated family. The programme is run in small group, ideally 6-10.  The group is a mixture of males, females, parents with whom the children live and parents with whom the children have contact. This allows those attending to see another’s perspective without the emotional link with them. Separated family members do not attend the same group, this allows those attending to reflect on their own parenting and role as a separated parent without their ex- partner being present. By delivering the programme using dedicated trained staff the experience for those attending is professional, empathetic and challenging when needed.

Attendees will learn what children need most from them as members of the family, and will learn to see the separation from the child’s point of view.  Parents and family members learn the fundamental principles of how to manage conflict and difficulties between themselves and their ex –partners and how to apply these principles by planning and imagining positive management behaviours. They also become clear on what their children need most from them and are able to move forward with the reduced need for court intervention.

Parent

Very helpful not what I expected at all. Nice to meet people going through or who have gone through a similar experience
