Our focus is on helping young people to achieve independence by building up their skill level in line with child development milestones by, for example, helping young people learn about turn taking and communicating their needs effectively. We also work holistically with the family, supporting them and signposting to other appropriate support where necessary. Our provision for Oxfordshire County Council focuses on providing a short breaks service that builds young people’s skills and independence whilst giving them the opportunity to meet others and participate in fun activities.
Core Assets run school holiday clubs called the Milkshake club, which run from 10am to 4pm. These provide fun activities for disabled children aged 6 years to 18 years in a safe and nurturing environment. Occasional outings are run and these are always popular. The Clubs are provided during half term and summer holidays, four days a week at John Watson School, Wheatley and Tuesday to Thursday at Bishopswood School, Sonning Common.
Core Assets After School Milkshake club is provided at John Watson School, Wheatley for disabled children aged 6 years to 18 years. The Club runs from 3pm to 6pm and is open to disabled children from any school. The Club provides fun activities and enjoys the use of inside and outside play areas.
We provide a range of play based and age appropriate activities that are fun and challenging, promote health and wellbeing and support each child’s personal and social development skills, to help towards greater independence in adulthood. We ensure children, young people and their families have opportunities to review overall service performance and to provide feedback to inform plans for the future.
